No single streaming metric fully represents station performance. Different metrics are useful for understanding different aspects of audience behaviour and engagement.
For long-term performance tracking, Total Listener Hours (TLH) is often one of the most reliable and stable metrics because it measures total listening consumption rather than attempting to estimate individual people.
Depending on what you are trying to understand, different metrics may also provide useful insight:
- TLH helps measure overall listening volume and long-term growth
- ATSL helps measure listener engagement and loyalty
- Sessions help identify listening activity and behaviour patterns
- Unique Listeners help estimate audience reach and directional growth
The most effective approach is usually to review multiple metrics together rather than relying too heavily on any single figure in isolation.
Consistency is also important. Comparing equivalent reporting periods and using the same reporting methodology over time generally produces the most meaningful performance analysis.
