The Alexa Radio Skills Kit (RSK) is a code-free option for radio stations to integrate their station into the Alexa ecosystem.

Using their simple onboarding solution, you can have your radio station accessible through voice command in as little as 72 hours. This will bypass the need for listeners to activate a skill in order to play your station via third-party aggregators such as TuneIn. This integration also allows stations to see analytics specific to Alexa and use features such as multi-room playback, setting a radio station to play out as an alarm, and including your station in listener routines.

This article will provide you with a brief overview of this process as well as where to find the necessary information from SharpStream to successfully onboard your radio station to the Alexa Radio Station Skills Kit.

TABLE OF CONTENTS

Getting Started

In order to get started with the process, you will need to create an Amazon Developer account. Thereafter you can navigate to the Alexa Radio Skills Kit homepage in order to add your station to the RSK.

The Process

When getting started on the Radio Stations Kit homepage you will be faced with two options, creating a skill for a single station or multiple stations at a time. As the Alexa RSK website includes a detailed explanation of all the fields in their Quickstart Guide, found on the right-hand side of the webpage, we will provide a brief overview of the process that needs to be followed in order to successfully create your skill for both options.

The Alexa Radio Skills Kit form includes required fields that may not pertain to web-only streams, such as frequency and callsign. Please consult the tooltip next to the form field in order to correctly fill out this field.

Single Station

When adding a single station at a time, you can simply click on Add New Station while on the RSK homepage. This will redirect you to the form that needs to be filled out in order for the process to be completed.

Upon completion of the form, click on Submit. This will return you to your RSK homepage.

Multiple Stations

If you would like to onboard multiple stations at a time, you can opt to download the intake form which will also need to be completed and uploaded on the same site.

The processing of this information can take up to 72 hours.
