This article will go over the process of creating a new podcast as if it is the first time you access Timbre as well as other methods for when you need to add a second or third podcast.

Create a New Podcast

Upon logging in to Timbre Podcaster for the first time you will be greeted by a page displaying two options allowing you to either create a new podcast or import an existing podcast.

If you would like to create another podcast after the first and no longer see the quick start option, you can do so from your Home page by scrolling down past the map section to the Podcasts section and selecting "+ Podcast".

You can also add a new podcast by navigating to the Podcasts section on the left side of your screen from where you will find the "+ Podcast" button as displayed below:

Podcast Settings

Upon selecting "+ Podcast" you will be redirected to the podcast creation hub where you will be able to enter all relevant details. These are broken up into the following sections which will be covered in a more granular fashion: General Settings, Discovery, Author Details, Advanced Podcast Settings and Advanced Timbre Settings.

General Settings

In General Settings you will find the most basic settings that are required for podcast creation. These include Podcast Name, Description, Artwork, Banner Artwork, Explicitness and Podcast Type.

Podcast Name

The name of the podcast will be displayed across all third-party podcast syndicators and determines the URL of the podcast XML file.

Do not change your podcast name without updating the URL in your syndicators, otherwise these syndicators will no longer have a valid URL.

Description

The podcast description will give potential listeners a glimpse into what they can expect when listening to your podcast, as well as give an opportunity for you to provide additional information such as the intended audience, the regularity of episode releases and what the main topics related to your podcast are. Below is an example of how this description will appear on Spotify: 

Artwork 

Choose an image from the artwork library to accompany the podcast or episode or upload a new image from your local drive. You can set this to appear alongside the media asset and metadata in the player.

Podcast artwork must meet the following criteria:

- Square image between 1400px and 3000px in width/height.
- PNG or JPG/JPEG format (with .png, .jpg, or .jpeg file extension)
- RGB colour space

Selecting the option "Suitable for Podcast" will filter all artwork to only show artwork that meets the above criteria. You can also search for artwork by name or tag.

Banner Artwork

Choose an image from your artwork library to accompany your podcast or episode or upload a new image from your device. You can select "Suitable for Podcast Banners" to filter out artwork that is not suitable for banners.

Banner artwork criteria:

- Image aspect ratio of 1:1.5
- PNG or JPG/JPEG format (with .png, .jpg, or .jpeg file extension)
- RGB colour space

Banner artwork is used for Timbre Podcast Websites only.

Explicit

Status to warn the audience of content unsuitable for all audiences.

Podcast Type

Episodic episodes are intended to be consumed without any specific order, while serial episodes are intended to be consumed in sequential order.

Discovery

The Discovery section contains information to help with the general discoverability of the podcast on the wider internet. This is where you will set information such as the category and subcategory used in platforms such as TuneIn. 

Category

Select the category into which your podcast falls; i.e comedy, fantasy, news, etc.

Sub-Category

On a more granular level, you can select a sub-category of the category that you have chosen. 

Homepage URL

The homepage URL allows you to link directly to the episode on your podcast homepage if available. 

Author Details

Author Details contains mandatory information about the podcast author as well as the copyright disclaimer should one be applicable. 

Author

Name(s) of the author(s) of this podcast. This is required by most syndicators.

Copyright

Presuming you own the content being published on the podcast, the copyright field is used by syndicators to verify that the content is your own. 

Owner Name

The owner's name is used for verification by podcast syndicators

Owner Email

The owner's email is used for verification by podcast syndicators. 

When listing your podcast on third-party apps, syndicators may send a verification email to the owner address and as such we recommend using an active email address.

Advanced Podcast Settings

This section houses fields used for specific functions.

Publish Date

Enter the date you want your new podcast to be published. If this field is left unfilled, it will default to the date the podcast was created in Timbre.

New Feed URL

Enter the URL of the new podcast XML. Only use this if you are migrating away from Timbre.

Advanced Timbre Settings

This section houses fields and settings pertaining to more advanced system settings.

Episode Ordering

This will decide how items are listed in your feed. “Date added New” will be selected by default. This will reflect in the item order for your XML feed as well as in the Timbre player.

This field applies to episodic podcasts only

Tags

Tags can be used to sort and classify your podcasts or episodes in Timbre. Use the drop-down menu to search for existing tags, or simply create a new tag.

Syncing

With this function, you are able to automatically sync your podcast episodes to the matching tags.

Sync to Website

This is simply a flag to be used in conjunction with custom website integrations if you wish to specify which podcasts to display on your site.
